Recently I’ve been having trouble of making small network of 6 computers working properly with each other through My network places. The problem is when browsing Workgroup members inside the network it takes long time to “see” shared folders and files in the root folder of a given PC. The network consists of 3 PCs with Windows Professional, one server Windows 2000 and two Home Edition PCs. They are connected through the switch that is connected to a router.
Note, Windows Explore can unexpectedly take long time to display Root folders if some items inside of it are inaccessible.
In my case I deleted all unnecessary shared items and left it at very minimum. I tried to remove the switch as well and connect just few computers through a router to no avail. I spent 2 days in the battle with viruses trying to fix the PC of my client.
